This is for all of those long-tail SEO skeptics
by Misty LackieI am a big proponent on targeting long tail keywords. Sure, a single long tail phrase may bring in less traffic than a single short phrase, but long tail keywords are so much easier to convert. The screenshot below shows just how powerful long tail SEO is. This is long tail “organic search” traffic that came into one of our sites for a campaign we did for a client. As you can see from this screenshot, this campaign drew in 8,424 visits from 8,186 different search phrases in 1 month. Yes you read that right – 8,186 different search phrases all from long tail.

Following are a few reasons why I am such a big fan of long tail
- Specific multi-word search phrases are much easier to rank in search engines than generic single keyword or short keyword phrases.
- Long tail, from our experience, has higher sales conversions because the visitors find exactly what they are looking for.
- Google loves content. Creating lots of different pages targeting many different long tail keywords gives Google and other search engines more pages to index.
- Easier to rank + higher conversion + lots of indexed pages = increased bottom line.
Note: make sure your targeted pages are not duplicate content and are very specific to the long tail you are targeting. Your targeted pages should be useful to the visitors that land on them and give them exactly what they are looking.

do you have a list of long-tail keywords that you use for your market that you’d be willing to share with a non-competing, out-of-area broker?

Hi Matt – I am not a Broker. We help Brokers/Agents with online marketing so no worries about competition here.
What types of property do you specialize in? I see you service the Athens area. Do you specialize in any particular type of property?
Following are some ideas.
- 3 bedroom Athens homes for sale
- 2 bedroom Athens homes for sale
- how to find bank owned property in Athens
- find Athens GA condo foreclosures
- 3 bedrooms Athens condos for sale
- 2 bedrooms Athens townhomes for sale
- downtown Athens GA homes for sale
- homes for sale in Chicopee-Dudley
Other county specific keywords you can target by placing these into various long-tail keyphrases.
East Side
Boulevard
West Side
Newtown
Normaltown
Cobbham
Beechwood
Briarcliff
You know your area much better than I, so I am sure you can think of a ton of other long-tail searches. I suggest starting off creating a couple blog posts per day that target 1 or 2 long-tail phrases. Within a month you will have 60 individual blog posts all targeting different long-tail searches. Keep doing this over time and you will have hundreds of targeted pages. Let’s say you can find the time to create 2 long-tail blog posts per day. Within a year you will have over 700 targeted pages. Now let’s say those 700 pages on average bring in 3 targeted visitors each per month. That will put your services in front of over 2100 targeted people per month. It takes time but if you work at it and build it up, it is worth it.
Hope this helps.
