Following are a few ways to get your content in front of search engines:

1. Bookmarking - submit your new posts or pages to bookmark sites.  Don’t spam the bookmark sites with only pages to your site or you may get blocked.
2. Sitemaps – create a sitemap page on your site that includes a link to all your internal pages.  This will help search engines crawl and find your pages quicker.
   
3. Google XML site maps – create a Google XML sitemap that includes all your pages and submit it through Google Webmaster Tools.
4. Backlinks – work on getting other relevant sites, blogs, etc. to link to you and your pages.
5. Submit to feed directories - create an RSS feed that includes your latest pages/posts and submit the feed to feed directories.

Ways to get in front of users:

1. Social networks – join social networks such as Twitter and Facebook and share your latest posts, news, etc. in your Twitter stream or your Facebook page.  You don’t want to flood your followers with only your stuff because they may run away.  Share other relevant useful information too.  And only follow or friend people that you feel will be interested in what you are sharing.
2. Post ads on classified sites - if you sell products or offer services, posting ads to classified sites can be a great way to place your product and services in front of thousands of web users.
3. Tell people – if you have great content that can be useful or beneficial, don’t be afraid to talk to people about it.  If the opportunity comes up and you can pitch your site naturally in a conversation, do it.

So, if you have great content, that’s a good start. Remember, though, that your content won’t be “king” unless you distribute it around the web for others to find!

The Facebook News Feed and Wall setting states:

“Facebook occasionally pairs advertisements with relevant social actions from a user’s friends to create Facebook Ads. Facebook Ads make advertisements more interesting and more tailored to you and your friends. These respect all privacy rules. You may opt out of appearing in your friends’ Facebook Ads below.”

So how can you disable this?

When logged into Facebook navigate to “Settings”

Choose “News Feed and Wall” from the privacy settings page

Choose “Facebook Ads” from the News Feed and Wall page and set “Appearance in Facebook Ads” to No one

What Twitter says they can do for businesses
“Twitter is a communications platform that helps businesses and their customers do a number of useful things. As a business, you can use it to quickly share information with people interested in your company, gather real-time market intelligence and feedback, and build relationships with customers, partners and other people who care about your company. As an individual user, you can use Twitter to tell a company (or anyone else) that you’ve had a great–or disappointing–experience with their business, offer product ideas, and learn about great offers.”

It seems pretty obvious that Twitter is putting effort in positioning itself as a business tool and wants to appeal to businesses.  I think this is smart especially if they want to monetize their platform.  I foresee in the near future this business.twitter.com domain hosting other business apps or accounts.

We will have to wait and see what comes of this.  If they can offer some great business tools and come up with some good solutions for managing all the spam that comes through, I think many businesses will be interested.

A recent study by Nielsen Media Research found that more than 85% of the world’s population has shopped online, up 40% from just two years earlier. Combine this statistic with the fact that 87% of home buyers search for property online, and that 3 out of 4 car buyers also search online, and it’s hard to ignore the fact that people are relying on the internet for more reason than just to surf; they’re also there to buy. If you own or run a business – whether freelance, real estate, automotive sales, product sales, service provider, or anything else – then you need to be marketing online.

So, how do you advertise your business online? The options available to you are many, and if you are just getting your feet wet in this arena then things can be confusing and overwhelming. Do your market research due-diligence, consumers are not going to leave online shopping behind any time soon.  Here are a few options to get you started:

1. Website – An effective website is much more than a static placeholder. Take tips from articles like “10 Steps to Measuring Web Site Success” and the Google Blog.
2. Blog – Blogging can be very effective if done right. Refer to advice from successful bloggers like Chris Brogan, CopyBlogger, the Online Marketing Blog, and others.
3. Post Targeted Ads – These types of ads can create a broader online presence for your business and be targeted to your market.
4. Google AdWords – Create online ads based on a set of keywords and set your own budget.
5. Social Networking – This one can be tricky, and many people use it entirely the wrong way. However, if managed successfully, social networking can be a great way to build your brand and presence online. To start in the social networking arena (see Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), I suggest you do much more watching and listening in the beginning to get a feel for how it is done successfully in your market. Find and connect with others in your industry who have been successful, and define a strategy with measurable goals.

• They changed the size of their logo.
• The bio text in the right panel of your profile is now italicized.
• They added a friends timeline feed to the bottom right panel of your main feed.
• They added a user timeline feed to the bottom right panel of your profile page.

Could this be an indication of some more changes/enhancements coming down the pipeline?  Seems like many are waiting for the big announcement on how Twitter is going to monetize.  Maybe these changes are a small step towards something bigger in the works??  We will see.
